Kimi Raikkonen says he is confident of Lotus getting their first win of the season – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is confident of Lotus winning a Grand Prix in the races to come.
Raikkonen finished second in the recently concluded Hungarian Grand Prix behind Lewis Hamilton.
As expected the Lotus car was well suited to the hot temperatures at Hungaroring, the track also suited the car and both Raikkonen and his teammate Romain Grosjean were able to get podium finishes.
The Finn said that he will be pushing hard for victory in the coming races. He has been able to hit five podium finishes in the current season with zero wins to show for it.
Raikkonen has shown his disappointment in almost all his podium finishes for not being able to convert them to wins. It was the same story at Hungaroring where the Finn said that he would have like to grasp on to the opportunity to overtake Hamilton in order
to record his first win of the season.
He does reckon that the team has been coming closer and closer to a win with each passing race. Lotus though have been really good or very mediocre in the season due to the nature of their car. When the conditions suits the car they do very well but if the
conditions are not suited to the car they are unable to come up with good consistent results.
“It's a shame we couldn't quite get the win but it's a good result for the team and we'll keep pushing to make that final step,” he said. “My start was not too bad but then we had some issues with the KERS and I lost a place to Fernando [Alonso].”
“When we got it working again we were stuck in the pack so it was a bit frustrating, but once we were in clear air we could push and it looked like we could make up a few places in the second stops,” he added.
Raikkonen admitted that while he was able to catch up to Hamilton it was almost impossible to overtake him.
The teams will take their one-month summer break now and this will be a good time for the teams to relax and reassess their options and performances to improve when the season returns.
