Kimi Raikkonen slams Sergio Perez for ‘stupid’ move – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus has slammed McLaren’s Sergio Perez for causing an accident in the Monaco GP. The incident cost both the drivers some solid points in the championship.
After the race ended, Perez claimed that the collision was not his fault and he should have been given some space by the 2007 world champion once he saw the McLaren coming from behind.
However, the Iceman did not agree with this fact and said, “He hit me from behind and that's about all there is to it. If he thinks it's my fault that he came into the corner too fast then he obviously has no idea what he's talking about. He seems to expect
people to be always looking at what he might do.”
This was not the first incident, which Perez was involved in. He had a fight with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso earlier in the race, but the stewards penalised the latter for that incident, as he cut a chicane to retain his position.
Although the Mexican driver was able to gain one position in his fight with Alonso, he was knocked out of the race because of his second incident. His car suffered a lot of front wing damage and the brakes also stopped functioning properly. As a result,
he had to retire in the end, as the car had lost control.
On the other hand, Raikkonen had suffered a rear puncture because of the collision and had to do one extra pit stop, which dropped him down to 16th. Despite that, he bounced back towards the final few laps and scored one point.
The Finn was not happy though and said, “It was a really disappointing day. Because of one stupid move from Sergio we've lost a lot of points to Sebastian in the championship and you can't afford to lose ground like that. Not the ideal weekend but there's
nothing we can do about it. At least we got one point back at the end.”
Due to the problems to Raikkonen and Alonso in the Monaco GP, reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel managed to stretch his overall lead in the Drivers’ Championship. He will now be looking to deliver consistent results in the upcoming events in order
to pressurise his opponents.
