Kimi Raikkonen still looking for elusive wins in the ongoing 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is still hoping for Lotus to win some races in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The Finn reckons that in order to secure wins the team needs to maximise the car’s potential in all sorts of conditions. The team has been able to have the most consistent car with consistent performances to show for it but the victories column remains empty
for the team.
Raikkonen has four podiums while Romain Grosjean has two and both drivers have had good opportunities to record wins but have not been able to. Lotus have been struggling in the qualifiers, they have had too much left for the race day to accomplish and Raikkonen
reckons that is one area that the team really needs to improve.
Raikkonen also added that the team needs to learn from the first half of the season as it moves into the second half and look for that elusive win.
“We haven't won any races so it's not a winner,” Raikkonen said. “I mean, we have a good package but for many reasons we probably haven't got the best out of it in all the conditions and all the races, but that's up to us. We're still pretty happy but of
course you want to do better and we wish to win races but it hasn't happened so far. Hopefully we can win some this year but it's not easy and we know that, we keep trying to improve things and learn from the things that we do and we'll see what we can do
in the second part.”
This is the comeback year for Raikkonen who returned to the sport after a two-year hiatus. It has been a better than expected return for the Finn so far but the he has made no qualms about how much he wants to win in the season and that is the main priority.
Raikkonen is helped by not just an able but a very talented driver in the form Grosjean and together they have managed to bring the team to fourth place in the constructors’ and are looking to close the gap on the third placed Mercedes.
