Kimi Raikkonen struggles with lack of downforce at Marina Bay Street Circuit – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is struggling with the lack of downforce after the Friday practice of the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix held at Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Raikkonen came to the night race with highest hopes to attain competitive result. However, he didn’t seem comfortable behind the wheel of E20 and could only set 12th fastest time in FP2 as he faced difficulty to find the desired level of downforce.
The Finnish driver said that it was a tough day for them as they couldn’t have the required grip on track. Moreover, he said that they lacked downforce due to which they were slower than the other contenders. In addition, he said that although they tried
their best to come up stronger but failed to make the essential progress as compared to their rivals.
“It was not an easy day,” Raikkonen said. “We don't have enough grip for some reason - I guess we're lacking downforce and it seems to be a bit difficult, at least today. We tried but we didn't run [the rear wing], it's nothing to do with that I think, maybe
we are not improving as fast as the others.”
Besides, he said that they are encountered with the same problem on both the soft and the supersoft Pirelli compound tyres. Even though, he said that they will strive at their best to show up stronger in the third practice and the qualifying but he was not
sure that whether they will be able to match their pace with the teams in the front or not.
“Yeah, I mean the same issues are there. When you put on new tyres it always feels a bit better for the beginning. I think we can improve for tomorrow, but we're not going to find two seconds from somewhere,” he added.
Above and beyond, he said that they are not feeling upset over their lack of pace in the first two practice sessions and are positively looking forward to find the necessary solution for the underlying problem.
Let’s see how the 2007 world champion performs in the qualifying of the Singapore GP.
