Kimi Raikkonen targets podium finish in 2012 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is targeting to secure a podium finish in 2012 Singapore Grand Prix which will be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 23, 2012.
Raikkonen has performed extremely well in the season until now and has secured six podium finishes. Moreover, he has been considered as one of the most competent title contender in this year’s championship as he has got some amazing talent and skills.
The 2007 world champion said that even though they struggled in the Monaco GP, nevertheless, they successfully attained remarkable results in the European GP which was held at Valencia Street Circuit. Furthermore, he said that the track of the upcoming race
is almost like Valencia so they are hoping to secure competitive points there next week.
“Monaco was not that good for us, but Valencia was one of the best weekends so far,” said Raikkonen. “Obviously, there is no reason why Singapore should be any different compared to Valencia.”
In addition, he said that overtaking will be immensely difficult in the approaching race. Therefore, he insisted that they must improve their qualifying pace for the next race so as to be able to start from a higher grid slot to achieve good result.
“Like at every street circuit, it's very difficult to pass other cars there, so starting the race as high as possible on the grid is a very important factor to get a good result,” he said.
Besides, he said that his aim is to secure his 7th podium of the ongoing season in the race ahead while he said that they have got the potential to challenge the top contenders.
“Obviously, the podium is a target again. We have had six podiums so far and scored as many points as the top guys in last few races,” he added.
Additionally, he said that they have managed to take full advantage of their updates in the season so far and are looking forward to achieve more in the remaining grands prix.
Above and beyond, let’s see how the Finnish driver and his teammate, Romain Grosjean perform in the forthcoming races.
