Kimi Raikkonen targets strong qualifying at Hungaroring – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is targeting to perform well in the qualifying of the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in order to secure a competitive grid slot for the race.
Raikkonen performed incredibly well in the German GP and managed to secure an impressive second podium finish after taking a start from 4th grid slot. Although, he had a tough match with the race winner, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull as he challenged
the German driver for victory, the wrong pit stop strategy gave him away.
The Finn has said that he is aiming to attain good result in the forthcoming race for which he is trying his best. Moreover, he stated that the track of the approaching race is quite difficult as it provides very limited overtaking opportunities to the drivers.
Therefore, he insisted that they need to extract the most out of their updates in the free practice sessions so as to make the necessary progress to perform well in the qualifying on Saturday to secure a perfect start to the race.
“DRS or not, it's never easy to overtake at the Hungaroring. To get the weekend right, you have to have good sessions in FP1, FP2 and FP3, then a strong qualifying session and finally a perfect start to the race,” the Finnish driver said.
“Obviously you need to get to the front in the qualifying, but also avoid the dirty side of the track on the grid. When you look back through the races this season, it seems the dirty side of the track is a real disadvantage in the starts,” he added.
He emphasised that they need to keep on making the essential improvements in their car so as to compete well with their rivals in the season ahead to make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
At present, the 2007 world champion is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Additionally, he is ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
It will be thrilling to see how the Iceman performs at the Hungaroring this weekend.
