Kimi Raikkonen tests Robby Gordon’s no. 7 Dodge at Virginia – NASCAR news
Former Formula 1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, who is featuring in the Camping World Truck Series, recently test drove no. 7 Dodge car of Robby Gordon at the Virginia International Raceway in the Sprint Cup Series.
His attempts to test drive a Sprint Cup Series stock car is a testimony that he wants to pursue his career in stock car racing and step up into the premier class of three national series.
The ‘Iceman’ drove Robby Gordon’s Dodge at the most preferable test venue for the NASCAR pre-event test session. The preparations for next month’s event at Infineon Raceway are already underway.
Gordon confirmed the reports of testing via his social networking page. He stated that the 2007 Formula 1 champion is testing the Dodge for the first day of the test session while he himself will return for the session next day.
Gordon said, “Just left for Mexico City! Big meetings for speed energy. Testing at VIR tomorrow, Iceman in car today. Trying to give him some speed!”
There is no official confirmation from Kimi Raikkonen and his team whether he will be participating in the Nationwide Series race coming Saturday, but the Finn is enlisted by NASCAR for the next Nationwide event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the upcoming
event, he will be driving the no. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Toyota, which is also owned by Kyle Busch Motorsports.
Last Friday, after he finished 15th in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 CWTS race, Raikkonen was asked by the reporters about his further plans in the NASCAR series but he did not commit himself to the event. In fact, his next step into
the race was under progress without any declaration. The CWTS was won by his team owner Kyle Busch who now holds four wins from seven races in the series so far this season.
