Kimi Raikkonen tops but urges not to read too much into the performance – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen topped the day on the final day of the final pre-season test at Barcelona.
Raikkonen has been showing good promise since his return to the sport after a two-year hiatus. He has been topping the pre-season tests but has continued to play down his performance and has urged not to read too much into his showing.
Sunday was another day where Raikkonen showed good pace in the now very strong looking Lotus E20. Raikkonen and Lotus did suffer some technical difficulties which caused the Finn to lose out on two days of the second pre-season test. Although he is confident
and mentioned that the team has made good progress so far but maintained that the real deal is still going to be the season.
“Of course, the fastest time at the end of the day looks good but no-one will know how fast any of the cars are until we get to qualifying at Albert Park,” Raikkonen said. “All the changes we have made over testing have been improving the car, so we'll have
to see what happens in Melbourne in a couple of weeks' time. I'm feeling positive.”
For Raikkonen it is imperative that he gets as much track time before the season begins and although he lost a few days in the build up to the season, he completed 121 laps on the final day of the final pre-season test.
“I was happy with today's running. We didn't have any major issues so it was certainly better than yesterday. Everything worked, we tried a lot of set-ups on the car and it all came together well. It was a long time in the car today but I feel fine. It was
cooler today so the tyres didn't work as well as otherwise but everything was okay,” Raikkonen said.
It will be interesting to see how the season shapes up, the build up has been quite exciting with Lotus, Force India, Sauber, Red Bull and McLaren showing good promise, while Ferrari the biggest upset in the build up to the season and others require some
hard work to prove better in the season.
