Kimi Raikkonen unhappy to finish behind Sebastian Vettel in Germany – Formula 1 News
Kimi Raikkonen was unhappy after not being able to overtake rival Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull to claim victory in the German GP.
The Lotus driver looked quite strong at the Nurburgring circuit, as the high track temperature and downforce helped him fight for a victory. However, he urged the
team to improve in order to deliver such results with consistency.
According to the Finn, “We want to win and we couldn't, so it's not ideal. The heat apparently helps us because the car is no different than it was a week ago and
I think the high-downforce circuits are much better suited to us than ones like Silverstone. So we still have some work to do.”
Before the German GP, Raikkonen encountered numerous problems on tracks with low temperatures. As a result, he was unable to maintain his position in the Drivers’
Championship and fell down one position in third.
However, he got a chance to close the gap to his rivals Vettel and Fernando Alonso in Germany. He did recover some points against the latter of the two, but was
unable to do a better job than the championship leader.
Although Raikkonen was in a strong position to overtake his German rival in the final moments of the race, he fell behind by one second in the end.
Commenting on that situation, the 2007 world champion said, “I think we had a pretty good last part of the race but obviously the cars are evenly matched in speeds
so it was very difficult to overtake. Maybe some more laps would have helped and it would have come close, but it's only 60 laps in this race and we have to try to make it happen in that time.”
At the moment, the Lotus driver is third in the championship and he will need some luck in the upcoming races to close the gap to his rivals. There are still plenty
of races left in the season, but it will be important for Raikkonen to get into the lead before going into the final few rounds of the season. The next race in Hungary will be held in three weeks’ time, so he would want the team to make some improvements until
then.
