Kimi Raikkonen unhappy with his straight-line speed after Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus is not satisfied with his straight-line speed after the Italian Grand Prix.
With the limited straight-line speed, the maximum they could have attained was a 5th position. His team principal, Eric Boullier, remains satisfied with his progress and believes that this was the maximum Raikkonen could have achieved at the Monza circuit.
The racing event at the Monza circuit left him complaining about the limited straight-line speed despite using the DRS. The widening gap, in terms of the championship points, from the championship leader, Fernando Alonso is also a factor which adds to the
worries of the Lotus driver. He said that they had expected a sixth or seventh position. 5th was the highest position he could have achieved from his car.
He said, “It's good to go into third position in the Drivers' Championship but we lost some points to Fernando [Alonso] which is not ideal. It was a difficult weekend as we were too slow in a straight line, making it very difficult to hold off anyone and
even with the DRS it was difficult to overtake the cars in front.”
The principal of Lotus supported the argument of his rider and said that Raikkonen has met their expectations in the Italian GP. He added that it is his reward for his performances that he has reached to the 3rd position in the Drivers championship with
7 races left in the season.
Boullier said, “Kimi delivered exactly as we wanted from him today and moving to third in the standings is a just reward. We are still in contact with those ahead of us in both Championships with seven races to go.”
He added that the important factor to attain a good position is to score even in difficult races.
Raikkonen attains 141 championship points. The competition is very close at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th position. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is at the second position with 142 points whereas, Sebastian Vettel is at the 4th position and attains 140 championship points.
Sebastian Vettel retired due to a problem with his alternator. Let’s see how it turns out to be for the British driver in the next Singaporean Grand Prix where he attains the lap record as well. The record was registered in 2008.
