Kimiko Date Krumm; A look at the Japan Open quarter finalist this season
 
Born on 28 September 1970 in the city of Kyoto, Kimiko Date Krumm is a professional tennis player from Japan. She has so far won a total of two hundred clashes in her career. The former world number four is currently ranked number
fifty six in the world by the Women Tennis Association.
As far as her performance in 2010 is concerned, the Japanese started her season by playing at the 2010 ASB Classic competition in Auckland where she was given a wild card into the main draw. She defeated Anna Chakvetadze in her
opening round clash in two sets. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2. The Tokyo resident in her next round battle bounced back from a set down to get past Virginie Razzano in three sets. The score line was 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. As a result of this victory, Kimiko
recorded her first victory over a top twenty player since her return on the tour. In the quarter final, the right hander however was outlasted by the ultimate winner Yanina Wickmayer in straight sets. The final match score was 6-2 6-2.
The forty year old Date-Krumm next qualified for the 2010 Medibank International Sydney competition where she overpowered Nadia Petrova in her first round clash in three sets. The final match score was  6-3 5-7 6-4. The Japanese
however was defeated in her second round clash at the hands of Victoria Azarenka1-6 7-5 5-7.
At the year’s first Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne, Kimiko couldn’t even win her opening round match as she was surpassed by Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets.
Date Krumm, who turned pro back in 1989 dispatched off Melinda Czink in the opening round match of the 2010 BNP Paribas Open Competition in Indian Wells before being downed by her fifteen seeded foe, Francesca Schiavone in two
sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
The 1.63 meters tall also made it to the second round of the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open women’s competition in Miami by brushing aside former top ten opponent Anna Chakvetadze in three sets. The final match score was 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
The Japanese then lost to the sixteen seed Nadia Petrova in straight sets.
At the second major event of the season, the former world number four sent home Dinara Safina in her opening round encounter in three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. This was her first victory in a Grand Slam event
since 1997. She however was next bundled out by Jarmila Groth of Australia in two sets.
After receiving direct entry into the main draw of the United States Open in New York, Kimiko fell down at the hands of two time major winner Svetlana Kuznetsova in the opening round clash in three sets. The final match score was
2-6, 6-4, 1-6.
She then went all the way to Seoul in order to defend her title at the 2010 Hansol Korea Open, however was defeated in the final eight by Agnes Szavay in straight sets.
In more recent news, the professional tennis player from Japan Kimiko Date Krumm made her appearance at the China Open Women’s singles competition in Belgium. She outlasted Anabel Medina Garrigues 6–0, 6–4 in her first round clash
however was defeated by Elena Dementieva in the second round in three sets. The final match score was 6-3 1-6 6-3.
Kimiko, is currently playing at the Japan Open in Osaka and has successfully reached the quarter final round after getting the better of top seed and world number eight Samantha Stosur in three sets. The final match score was  5–7,
6–3, 7–6(4). She will next take on Shahar Pe’er for a final four berth in Osaka.
