Kimiko Date-Krumm crushes Pauline Parmentier in round one – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Japanese veteran, Kimiko Date-Krumm, destroyed the French rising star, Pauline Parmentier, with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Wednesday. She jolted down a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the 26-year-old in the opening round of this hard court tournament
taking place from 5th to 18th March at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The 41-year-old brought her experience into play and required an hour to topple over Parmentier in straight sets. Meeting each other for the first time, Date-Krumm not only edged in the head-to-head series by 1-0 against the French but also secured a place
in the second round.
Ranked 74th in the WTA rankings, Date-Krumm thundered into this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event and wiped out the opening four games in a row. After the French came on the score sheet for the first time in the fifth game,
the Japanese pocketed the last two games and clinched the set with a superb 6-1 score line.
The Kyoto native went berserk in the following set and after hitting massive forehands, she went on a five-game tear before the French could hold on. In spite of losing her serve in the seventh game, Date-Krumm held her serve once more and sealed the set
by winning six games to three.
All in all, the experience contestant played her top tennis in this match. She produced a lower first serve share of 59 per cent as opposed o the French’s 67 per cent but magnificently marked 19 out of 24 points on it. Date-Krumm also took full advantage
of the several unforced errors and double faults her opponent spilled and converted five out of seven break chances to her advantage.
Next in line for the Japanese star is the former world number two, Vera Zvonareva. The Russian is seeded ninth in this tournament and reached this spot after receiving a first round bye.
Jamie Hampton, a local wild card entrant, will accompany the Japanese in the following round. She broke her opponent’s serve five times to formulate a spectacular 6-0, 6-1 score line in under an hour.
