Kimmer Coppejans plonks Mitchell Krueger for final berth – Boys’ Singles French Open 2012
Sixth seed, Kimmer Coppejans, took down the American challenger, Mitchell Krueger, in straight sets at the Boys’ Singles Roland Garros 2012 on Friday. He registered a 6-3, 7-5 victory against the American teenager to book a spot in the final round at this
second of the four Grand Slam events held in Paris, France.
The seeded Belgian dominated throughout the match to dump eighth seeded Krueger in their first meeting at this major clay court tournament. After earning this success in one hour and 23 minutes, Coppejans convincingly advanced into the title-round.
Coppejans enthusiastically entered the Court number Two and plucked his serve in the opening game with poise. He maintained consistency in his game and continued bagging his remaining serves without facing any hindrance. The Belgian got the breakthrough
in the fourth game and pulled out the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Ranked 1921st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Coppejans carried his winning momentum in the proceeding set and earned the coveted break in the opening game to take the initial lead. He then exchanged three serve breaks and
subsequently clicked the set by winning seven games to five.
Summing up the 18-year-old Belgian’s performance, Coppejans manipulated a better first serve share of 67 per cent in contrast with his opponent’s 53 per cent and impressively availed 26 out of 42 points on it. He also fired three winners and sought 10 break
opportunities to prevail.
Next in line for the winning teenager is the fifth seed, Filip Peliwo, who bounced back to overpower 11th seeded Adam Pavlasek in three sets to set up this battle.
The Canadian seed made a drastic start and after failing to block both breakpoints he faced, Peliwo lost the opening set with a 2-6 defeat.
However, he re-focused his strategy in the following set and dug his way back in game. Peliwo lost his serve twice but capitalised on two out of nine break chances to impose a tie-breaker. He edged past his opponent in it and grabbed the equaliser with a
7-6(5) score line.
The 18-year-old Peliwo went berserk in the final set and eventually pulled out the decider with a bagel.
