Kind of depressed and anxious!?

I'm feeling very anxious and also depressed because in a couple of months, where I live, it'll be winter. It'll be very cold and lot's of snow. Normally I would be fine with it: sledding, christmas and days off school. But recently I've been apprehensive about winter because

1) summer will be gone and I like summer

But I think it's because my parents announced they were divorcing 3 days after christmas. Could this be causing my depression and anxiety? What can I do to stop my anxiety and deppresion??

  1. K-Dog, the problem isn't the changing of the season, its your parents.

First of all, you are not to blame for your parents' actions. You had no part in their divorce, it was between two adults who for whatever reason couldn't stay together. Say it with me: No one -- and certainly not you -- is to blame, sometimes things just don't work out.

The Earth won't stop orbiting around the sun and your parents will not stop loving you. There will be spring and summer again, and you my friend will get through this and be stronger for it.

Talk to someone about your feelings, just talking and getting the words out can make you feel a little better.

  2. A lot of people get depressed about fall and winter because it symbolizes death and endings in a way.  There's new life in spring and summer, but in the fall the leaves change and fall off and by winter the trees are bare.  Also, studies have shown that people get depressed around holidays...there's actually an increased suicide rate, probably because of the stress it puts on people.  Having to get everything together and see family or friends that you might not be comfortably close with can be a burden.  The announcement of your parents' decision to divorce can definitely be a part of it as well.  It was an unpleasant experience for you I'm sure, so now a part of you associates the winter and holidays with something unpleasant.  Try to make the best of it, surround yourself with positive things that make you happy, get plenty of sunlight.  When you're experiencing anxiety try deep breathing exercises.  Think of all the good things about winter:  The hot cocoa, coming inside from the cold and snuggling under a nice warm blanket, Christmas and gifts and good food, COOKIES!!! lol and of course January 1st will come, and in the middle of dead winter it will represent a new start.  A new year to enjoy, and new beginnings!!   Feel better :-)

  3. it may be the reason. or it could be much deeper then that. i reccomend that you see a doctor and talk to them about your depression. they may perscribe medication
