Kinda Easy wins kinda easily in the St Leger heats
Trainer Mark Wallis left Wimbledon a very satisfied man on Saturday night.
His defending champion of the St Leger, Kinda Ready, got his campaign off to the perfect start by winning his heat in comfortable fashion. The 687 meters at Plough Lane is like a second home to Wallis’ St Leger champion from last year, and he put a tough looking heat to the sword with an impressive staying performance.
Bolting out from his favoured trap five box, he kicked six lengths clear of the field by the third bend, and, although Baran Pimlico sprang from the pack and put up a stiff challenge in to the winner near the line, Kinda Easy always had enough in the tank to see of the challenge.
Shaws Dilemma also showed that she also hasn’t ended her love affair with the track as Rab McNair’s b***h strode to victory in heat eight. Last year’s easy winner of the Oaks, which is run at Wimbledon, probably didn’t have the strongest heat of the evening but did what was required to score by two lengths ahead of Razzmatazz.
Head Iton Jason showed that his recent Grade One truimph was not fluke by taking heat five. The winner of the Three Steps to Victory final at Sheffield took up a superb early position just off the rail, and used his stamina to great effect in the final 50 yards – finishing two lengths ahead of the staying on Sapphirine.
There was a surprise in heat four as Andy Collett’s Blonde Blitz saved his best for the finish to narrowly get up to beat Bower Hawk and the front-running Ravello Drive.
Bodell Clare picked up the tag of disappointment of the evening by struggling to second place in the opening heat. Fraziers Clone was the architect of the hot favourite’s downfall, coming in from a wide pitch to land the spoils late on.
One dog that didn’t need a late surge to be victorious was Droopys Bradley, who had heat six sewn up inside the first corner. Registering the quickest split time of the night (16.27secs) Paul Donovan’s fancied hound soon had a four length lead down the back straight, and continued up the running to go onto score by a length and a half in front of the impressive Lottes Girl, who recovered from an early bump to run on for second.
