Kinda a silly question, but is there spear grass in New Zealand??

My friend is buying hikers and doesn't want to buy the meshed shoes if there is spear grass. Does anybody know the answer to this question?

    Yes. There is Spear grass in New Zealand.

    On Wellington's south coast, actually.
