I have always had problems with constipation, but since giving birth in Dec, it has since got worse! But for the past month or so I have had extreme trouble passing stools, I have to push my perinium using a wet wipe in order to go otherwise im sat on the toilet in tears as I cannot go!! I have spoken to my health visitor who says its hemmoroids (sp?) but I disagree, I have an appointment with my dr next wk! Anyone had any problems of this sort? Ive searched on the internet and the symptoms are that of a prolapse.

  1. Definately sounds like a prolapse especially if you have to push bits back in to go. It will be an internal prolapse where back passage caves into agina. Try and look up channel 4 (?)see if they still have the info from their embarrassing illnesses as there was a woman with a double prolapse who they helped.

I know it can't be nice but good on you for actually going to the doc, good luck

  2. Er.....yeah I think it's more than 'roids.  Sounds like a pelvic floor issue...definitely bring the subject up with your doctor...

  3. Haemmorhoids are FAR more likely than a prolapse - that would mean that your r****m had fallen out your bum! Very painful and pretty obvious...

Follow all the general rules for constipation; drink loads of water, eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg and a small amount of dried fruit like prunes, figs, dates. With a new baby you may not be eatig all that well/regularly and if you are breastfeeding you may be dehydrated.

Don't wait until you are desperate to go as you will push more and it will really hurt.

Don't rush when you are on the toilet - ignore the baby crying (hard I know!) and relax. The more you worry the worse it will be!

Try propping your feet up on a low step when you sit on the toilet - the different angle helps a lot.

Pressing on your perineum with a wet wipe is also good as it eases the pressure on your sore bits.

  4. whilst piles are very common in and after pregnancy the symptoms u describe do not sound like it but be guided by yr doctor. u need to tackle the constipation as that is not helping whatever the problem is.  there was a woman on embarrassing illnesses with similar problem and she was cured witha simple op afte ryears of suffering but dont worry, im sure yr doc will sort it for u.  good luck.

  5. a women had this problem on embarrasing illnesses on channel for, go to your doctor and tell him about it, she had an operation to solve it, so i think you should ask your doctor about having the operation as i know u will feel more better after it!! good luck! :D <3 x x

  6. Well you will have to let your Doc have a look and see. Is there any bleeding? If there is then it is more likely to be hemorrhoids and I have suffered after having both my kids with them, they hurt and make it harder for you to go to the loo because you only have a certain amount of give in your bum and if you have hemorrhoids they take up a bit of space poking out (gross I know, but true).

Try upping your fibre intake using a stool softener like Metamucil or fibrogel. Plain old psyllium husks in OJ work just as well, but drink lots and lots of water. If you increase your fibre but not your water it will make the problem worse.

I do believe that if it was a prolapsed r****m you would be in lots of pain and a fair bit of bowel would be hanging out. If it feels like a bunch of grapes (sad but true) then it is more likely hemorrhoids.

  7. I had a similar problem, got the dreaded 'Farmer Giles' toward the end of pregnancy, may as well I got everything else lol.

Anyway they didn't disappear-not sure if anyones does but its not something I tend to bring up in conversation. I have problems if i get constipated so i try to avoid this as much as possible by: Drinking lots of water through the day

                          eating more fruit & veg

less bunging food like cheese, eggs & junk food

Buy a stepping stool that toddlers use to climb onto the toilet & put your feet on it whilst you go to the toilet, try not to push, rock back n forth, read, whatever relaxes you and don't rush. You may need an operation, my MIL had one to remove her 'Giles' but she was in agony. If your constipated it will make it 10 times harder and more painful so work on softening up them stools- and don't forget to buy a stool !!

  8. Haemorrhoids are like large, painful grape sized lumps that stick out from your r****m.

They are often itchy and can bleed when you go.

They usually grade them - grade 1 are small and skin taggy and don't cause a lot of problems.  Grade 4 are the grapes that make you constipated and are very painful.

If it is this all you need is a prescribed steroid cream to shrink them, lots of fibre in your diet and to drink a lot of water.
