I am moving to NYC to attend Columbia as a doctoral student, so I am able to live in campus (family) housing with my kids, but where can I send them to school??? I have one going into Kindergarden and two who will have to be enrolled in a preschool. We haven't even started any of the application process yet and it's June!!! Any suggestions would be great!!!!

  1. My preschool aged grandsons live in NYC. You are automatically able to enroll in the Public School in your area for free. Your landlord or neighbors will know which one is closest to your apartment. There are plenty of private preschools all of whom have probaly selected their students for next year. The selection process starts in Sept for the following year! There are free publications like the Big Apple Parents which have adds for smaller schools. they may have openings. There are also plenty of classes - cooking, swimming etc. If you need Day Care, the NYC Board of Health monitors day care programs and their website may help you to locate the ones in your area. I do not know if Columbia has one. Good luck, and hold on to your hat when you see the tuition rates for the preschools.
