  1. Most 5 year olds start kindergarten depending on the birthday cut off for your district.

  2. It depends on what time of year they were born and whether they were in daycare - but most kids do go to kindergarten the year before they are eligible to go to First Grade.  Alternately some get the same education through their daycare or their parents begin to homeschool them in all the initial stuff they need to know before First Grade.  The main thing with Kindergarten is that children do get to try out the classroom setting and work out their confusion or frustration or lack of social skills before they hit first grade.  You need to know as early as possible if the classroom setting upsets your child and they start bitting or wetting or otherwise showing frustration that needs to be handled to keep them learning in the classroom.  Kindergarten is a "soft start" and they have a little more wiggle room to learn things they did not learn yet - including proper social behavior for their age.

  3. Yes as long as they turn 5 by the cutoff date which is usually early September.  If they don't make that date they will usually start Kindergarten the next Fall

  4. When a child goes to kindergarten depends on what state they live in as well as when their birthday falls. Most states require a child to be five by Sept. 1st. If they miss the cut off, many states do not test kids to let them in as a young five year old.

Also, some parent's are afraid their child is not ready even if they meet the cut off date. However, from what I have seen, many go through with it anyway and find their child adjusts and does fine.

So to answer your question, most 5 year olds meeting the cut off date for their state of residence do go to kindergarten.

  5. yea, iwas 4 and a half, but some of the kids in my class were 5.
