What was the kindest thing someone has done for you

Lots.  But one that I remember is when I needed a short story by a South African author, and I wrote to the Alan Paton Center in Natal for them to scan it and send it--and guess what, no scanner.  And some perfect stranger on the other side of the world took the time to type the whole thing out so that I could have it for my class the next day.  I cried.
