  1. On Oct you you can suffered with winter & oxygen problem so you take glucose & woolen cloths for your family and 10 month child.

  2. I don't think it is good to carry 10 mth child, that too in Oct. when its cold & some times raining.  Besides Vishnu Devi is quite cold even during summer & when even the young, old find it difficult to go & come back, even if one hires mule or palki.

  3. Although the Vaishno Devi shrine can be visited throughout the year, the pilgrimage is generally undertaken by the devotees in the severe cold months of the year, i.e., from October to February. During the festival of Navaratri, so you may have to wait for a long time to have the "darshan"... at the base camp ( katra ) , there are many "pithoo's" available to carry your bags and your child till you reach the temple.. due to unpredictible weather conditions u better carry all the required items with you all the way to the temple.

dont forget to collect the yatra ticket from katra office.

there are many websites regarding mata vaishno devi, u will be able to find all details there.

    hope it helps.

  4. The combined advice given by **the**funny**bloke**9437962921 and roclimba is indeed sound advice.

There is no altitude sickness at that level. the Vaishno Devi Shrine is at an altitude of 5200 feet(1584 metres)  above sea level. Altitude sickness occurs starting at 8000 feet(2438 metres) above sea level. The weather is severe during October, so do pack to stay warm.

In addition to heavy clothing, you may find packing a lightweight mylar foil emergency blanket to be a good idea. They are extremely small and weigh only 30g yet they reflect 90 percent of body heat back to you. This would be good to wrap your child in, in addition to warm clothing. They are also waterproof. You can find them at places that carry camping gear and sporting goods, as well as survivalist shops.

The following links will help you in planning your journey. The last link is only meant to show you what a mylar blanket looks like and what it does.

  5. There is no altitude sickness and I am sorry Radhika..you had never been to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra. This is not that high that a kid will get altitude sickness but yes- evening, nights and cloudy day may become little chilly. So- pack some woolens for the infant and old members.

Way to temple is very good- cemented and stairs....feel no problem and do not worry. Never drink GLUCOSE to kids or SENIORS....this is famous INDIAN TV adv. otherwise there is no use of this GLUCOSE unless one is suffering  from HYPO-GLYCAEMIA which means alarming low level of sugar in body.
