King Bolt rules over the competition in A3 race at Monmore
The winning dog in each 480m greyhound race at Monmore Green Greyhound Stadium is treated like royalty, even if it is just for a short while. King Bolt got that kind of reception after
he placed first in the A3 race that began an exciting afternoon at the dogs.
Coming out of trap three, King Bolt went wide, but led near the finish line to claim the top spot in 29.13. Dessies Cannon, one of two 9-4 joint favourites in this race, was just a neck’s
length behind the winner, despite having checked first. But he rebounded quickly, and ran on to complete the race in 29.15.
Finishing in the third position was Miss Everdean (3-1), who soon led after bounding out of trap two. Her time of 29.16 placed her a shoulder’s length behind second place. Ontario, the
other 9-4 joint favourite, had every chance to win this race, but ended up in fourth place. He was a neck’s length out of a top-three finish with his time of 29.18.
A single length separated fourth place from fifth, with Homestead Forest (6-1) running to a fifth-place finish in 29.26. He also had every chance to pick up a win, but failed to capitalize
on his opportunities. Bringing up the rear was Proud Rooney, who was not proud after finishing last. A missed break caused him to lose 2¾ lengths and finish in 29.48.
The A2 race that was held later on saw Aghaburren Wild (7-2) sprint to a big victory. After a fast start from trap two, she always led the pack on the way to a 28.85 finish. Are We Dancers
went wide, but held every chance to win. He danced on to a second-place finish in 29.01 that was 2 lengths behind Aghaburren Wild.
Conger Doran, the 10-1 long shot, locked up a third-place finish that surprised many. He also had every chance to pull a win, and made the most of the situation by finishing in 29.17,
which placed him 2 lengths behind second place. Claiming fourth place was Slim Amarillo (3-1), who matched the third-place time of 29.17. He was a shoulder behind Conger Doran.
Tyrur Friday (5-1) completed the race in fifth place after moving slowly away from the other racers. His finishing time of 29.20 was behind the number four spot but a neck. Finally, Droopys
Aidan, the 9-4 favourite, wound up in sixth place after moving slowly away. He was 2 lengths out of the fifth position in 29.36, which disappointed many racing fans in attendance.
The racing action at Monmore Green Greyhound Stadium resumes on Thursday, 27 October with another exciting meeting scheduled. The first race begins at 19:25.
