  1. King Charles II suffered a sudden apoplectic (or convulsive) fit the morning of 2 February 1685 while shaving and died four days later because of uremia, or kidney dysfunction.

Despite the rumor popular at the time of Charles II's death that he died from poisoning, upon examining the King's head, "a copious effusion of lymph was found in the ventricles at the base of the cranium"--in other words, Charles II had a stroke, which in turn brought about uremia, or renal failure.  Symptoms of renal failure include nausea, vomiting, headache, dimness of visions, convulsions, and coma.

  2. Several of his biographers seem to think he died of his treatment, rather than the disease or uraemia. That's called iatrogenic - the doctor did it.

He was bled, clystered, dosed, fomented and generally tortured for several days after becoming ill, probably quite a minor stroke, as well as being nagged to acknowledge his Catholicism. Just think, had it not been for that, he would have outlived his fanatic brother James II, James' s alleged son would have succeeded and we would now have a Catholic King/Queen of England, married to a Catholic prince/ss, with 23 kids all on the public purse and 58 known people in line for the throne. So Charlie the Prince of Wails could have walked out on the whole deal, as he longs to do.

  3. Yes, they think he died of ureamia.
