  1. King louis XIV is an absolute monarch because of his entire domination of every class. He placed the palace of Versailles 11 miles away from Paris so that the peasants couldn't reach him easily. He forced mandatory attendance 11 months of the year at Versailles for all nobility. his financial advisor Colbert brought about mercantilism. And he had the first standing army.
