King Phil thrives in PRIMUS TELECOM PUPPY DERBY TRIALSTAKES at Henlow on Jan 19
King Phil upset Taylors Ace, and the rest to win the PRIMUS TELECOM PUPPY DERBY TRIALSTAKES, held at Henlow on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
Carrying the betting odds of 4 to 1, the son of Crash out of Olygirl was not sent as the favourite in the £150 heat.
The white and black hound, however, unleashed a surprise, taking first position in the 460 metre long Grade Open Race (OR).
E. Mcnair’s trainee had to do a lot of hard work to notch up the top place on the chart. Good start followed by a brilliant run helped him cross the wire in 28.84 seconds, beating the runner-up by a length’s margin.
The second position was secured by Newinn Rocket, the son of Ballymac Maeve out of Little Flutter. With the starting price of 7 to 2, the black dog started off his run from the first trap.
By covering the distance in 28.91 seconds, the P J Rosney-trained dog beat Aero Bellagio by one length. It was like a blanket finish, as the hounds crossed the wire simultaneously. The third placed hound, Aero Bellagio, was one length adrift of the
runner-up.
Holding the winning chances of 3 to 1, the white and black son of Crash out of Rough Charley made it to the winning post in 28.99 seconds.
Although, he was unable to challenge the top-2, defeating the favourite, Taylors Ace, was certainly a fine achievement.
With the odds of 11 to 8 – the highest in the race, Black Shaw’s son out of Eliors Mir was expected to give a thumping performance.
However, the luck didn’t favour the high status dog, as he was bumped to 4.
C. R. Lister’s black trainee clocked the area in 29.09 seconds, finishing 1 ¼ lengths behind Aero Bellagio.
The fifth position went to Droopys Darwin, who was sent off with the starting price of 10 to 1. He managed to arrive at the final point in 29.22 seconds, only one length ahead of the back marker.
The last place belonged to the least favourite hound in the heat, Blackrose Ace – carrying the chances of 16 to 1. Cashen Legend’s son out of Churchview Model bridged the distance in 29.30 seconds.
King Phil has registered his first success since November last year. His trainer will now look to continue the good rhythm, and pocket more titles.
