King/ Shvedova breeze past Kondratieva/ Martic
in the 1st round – Kremlin Cup 2011
Second seeded team of Vania King with Yaroslava Shvedova got rid of Maria Kondratieva with Petra Martic in the initial round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The players took up swords on indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow,
Russia. It took just fifty minutes for the second seeded King/ Shvedova to overpower Russian Kondratieva with Croatian Martic on Wednesday the 19th of October 2011, registering a 6-2, 6-2 win.
The opening round of the match was inaugurated by King/ Shvedova and they got off to a great start by not just holding their serves but they also capitalized on a breakpoint to take a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard. They again
repeated the feat and their team was the only team on the scoreboard leading with a 4-0 score by the end of the fourth game.
They further increased their lead on the scoreboard to 5-0 by the end of the fifth game as they held serve. However, it was in the sixth game that Kondratieva/ Martic bagged their first service game and they reduced the deficit
to 2-5 by the end of the seventh game as they broke their adversaries. Nevertheless, King/ Shvedova were now only a game away from victory and as they served for the opening set in the eighth game, they smashed a marvellous backhand shot and clogged the opening
round with a 6-2 victory.
King/ Shvedova had decided to serve for the second set and they bagged their first service game to place themselves on the scoreboard at 1-0. Following behind were their adversaries, who too handles their service game to position
themselves beside them at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
In the third game the second seeded duo held serve and as t hey broke their adversaries in the fourth, they took the lead at 3-1. They further increased the lead to 4-1 by once more bagging a game on their serve. In the sixth and
the seventh game the two crews won on respective serves and the scoreboard had progressed to 5-2. King/ Shvedova were now only a game away from victory, the serve switched and Kondratieva/ Martic double faulted on their serve gifting the match to King/ Shvedova.
The second seeded couple will now be facing Russian team of Vitalia Diatchenko with Elena Vesnina in the second round of the event.
