King/ Shvedova outsmart Waters/ Levy in 1st round – HP Japan Open 2011
Top seeded team of Vania King with Yaroslava Shvedova thrashed American team of Lindsay Lee-Waters with Megan Moulton -Levy in the opening round of the HP Japan Open 2011. The squads battled it out on the outdoor hard courts of
Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka, Japan.
After one hour and twenty minutes the American King with Kazakh Shvedova overpowered the American duo in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday the 12th of October 2011.
Opening the initial round of the match was Waters/ Levy, who carefully managed to win their first service game against the top seeds. King/ Shvedova too conquered their service game and placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1.
The American duo double faulted on their second serve in the third game and endorsed a game to their opponents. Mean while, King/ Shvedova had not only capitalized on a breakpoint but also held serve in the fourth game to take a lead of 3-1.
The two crews then held serve for the following two games and the scoreboard had rotated to 4-2 by the end of the sixth game. Matching a blow for a blow the squads broke each other back-to-back and at the end of the eighth game
the score had progressed to 5-3. Waters/ Levy did not want their opponents to take the lead over them and put up a good fight by not just a hold of serve in the ninth game but also by breaking their American/ Kazakh adversaries in the tenth game to tie the
score at 5-5.
However, King/ Shvedova capitalized on an extremely crucial break immediately in the following game and were now only a game away from victory. As they held serve in the twelfth game, they conquered the opening set with 7-5 victory
and were now one up in the match.
The second round of the match was commenced by Waters/ Levy and they successfully placed themselves at 1-0 on the scoreboard. They then capitalized on an early break and took a mini lead of 2-0. Not wanting their adversaries to
further increase the lead, Shvedova/ King were quick to break back in the third game and they then managed to close in on the gap at 2-2 by holding their serve.
The American/ Kazakh pair finally took a mini lead of 3-2 and then 4-2 by not only breaking their adversaries but also with a hold of serve. In the following two games the teams won on alternate service games and the scoreboard
progressed to 5-3. In the last two games the players again accomplished to game a service game each and by the end of the tenth game King/ Shvedova had not just clogged the set but also the match.
Up next for the top seeded team is Eleni Daniilidou with Mandy Minella in the quarterfinal of the doubles event.
