King/ Shvedova run past Hlavackova/ Hradecka into semi final – US Open 2011
US Open 2011 resumed after a two day down pour and taking to show court 11 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center were  number 8 seeded Andrea Hlavackova with Lucie Hradecka against number three seeded Vania King besides Yaroslava Shvedova.
The American and the Kazakh (King/ Shvedova) team won the match with a score of 6-4, 7-5 in just 1 hour and 42 minutes.
Opening the first set were the Czech couple (Hlavackova/ Hradecka), as they smashed an ace they bagged the first game without much opposition. In the following seven games the players kept on winning on their serves and the score was levelled at 4-4. In
the ninth game the American/ Kazakh mix broke their opponents for the first time to take the lead at 5-4. In the tenth game King/ Shvedova were serving for the match but the Czech players were looking to break their opponents, however, the smooth mix between
the American and the Kazakh held their serve and bagged the set.
Although, the Czech duo had put up a good fight but because they were unable to capitalize on the only break point opportunity, they lost the opening set with a difference of six points.
Even after being beaten blue and black the number 8th seeded squad didn’t learn their lesson and were no competition for the number 3 seed team. Again the players won on their serves in the first four games to equalize the score at 2-2.  However,
in the fifth game first to break was King and Shvedova, who took the lead for a brief moment and were then broken back by the Czech couple, who were not ready to throw in the towel and equalized the score to 3-3. The two then broke each two times each in the
following four games to level the score at 5-5. At such a crucial stage in the match King and Shvedova broke their Czech adversaries for the last time to take a lead at 6-5 and by holding their serve in the twelfth game they bagged the set and the match.
Even though, King/ Shvedova had smashed no aces and zero winners, they won the match by winning on their serves and by accomplishing a total of 44 points in the second set.
It was a great victory for the American and the Kazakh as they were able to secure a berth in the semi final of the US Open 2011 where they will be colliding against the Russian pair of Maria Kirilenko with Nadia Petrova, who are seeded at number five.
