Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King admitted to looking back at his injury plagued football career with regrets.
The player said that he will always look back at his career with regrets, thinking of what could’ve been had he not suffered so many injuries and setbacks.
King was forced to retire from professional football earlier this summer after a long-running fight against a series of recurring knee injuries.
The former Tottenham captain has been a talismanic figure at White Hart Lane, and always put in a 100 per cent every time he stepped out on the pitch. However, the player had to make do with a limited number of games as he continuously battled knee injuries and fitness problems.
"I'll probably always think about what might have happened without the injuries," the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 defender was quoted while speaking to the English press.
"When my knee started coming up I was 25 or 26 and was starting to feel I had a good understanding of the game and my position and could go from strength to strength.”
"I had to do what I could to keep my career going. I'll look back and realise I gave it everything I could to try to perform but it was difficult.”
The defender revealed details about his injuries and said that he had to rely on survival instincts to help him last games and play till the final whistle.
King spent his entire career at Tottenham and captained the side to a significant League Cup victory in 2008 and was also captain of the club when Tottenham qualified for the Champions League back in 2010.
Speaking on how he dealt with his injuries, he added:
“There was a lot of self motivation involved. I knew my fitness levels were so low compared with those I was playing against. I had to trick myself into believing it wasn't about that.”
