Why does England not care about its Kings?, we ussually only hear about the Queen this and the queen that. Even the national anthem mentions the queen and not the king. Why is the queen more important than the king?

  1. Many people have correctly mentioned that the national anthem changes with the s*x of the monarch.  I believe this first came about with Queen Victoria.

There has only been one instance in which there was a king and a queen who ruled as co-monarchs.  I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but it was Queen Mary and King William.  But, I believe even though there was a reigning  queen, it wasn't God save the king and queen but God save the king.

They both had equal claims to the crown, were husband and wife and I believe first cousins.     William and Mary College in the U.S. is derived from their names.

  2. The anthem mentions the queen or the king, depending on what is relevant.

  3. Becuase we don't have a king, prince Phillip married into the royal family so cannot be called a king.  When the queen dies or abdicates Charles will be king and the national anthem will change to god save the king.

  4. England does not currently have a king

Yes Diana would have been Queen - it's a gender thing

  5. Just to be nit pickie, Kengolle, the Queen is married to a member of the Greek Royal Family.

And yes, when Prince Charles comes to the throne the National Anthem will be God Save the King.

  6. JUST AS THE qUEEN RETIRE  U WILL GET a   king

  7. " If i get my way they will know me"

  8. When we actually have a King, we will sing "God save the King". A Queen is not more important than a King. It just depends which we happen to have at the time.

  9. Because the Queen is from the royal line. She is married to a non royal.

  10. We don't have both at the same time, we only have one ruling monarch.  At the moment it's a Queen, when Charlie takes over we will sing God Save the King like we did for George - Elizabeths Daddy.

  11. because we don't have a king.  I wish we didn't have a queen either

  12. It is because, all the male heirs who were placed on the throne were rather Waspish, Nancy boyish, g*y, part of the Pink brigade. So it was decided in the 1500's to keep the lyrics "God save the Queen", as it was generic and covered all eventuality's. It has turned out (pardon the pun) to be rather a stroke of genius as their hasn't been a real KING since this came into being. I hope this helped.

  13. the national anthem changes depending who is in power, so if it was a king then it would be god save the king etc.

  14. Because we do not have a royal blood line King you imbecile! The anthem changes with whoever is in power, the Queen is the blood line and the Duke of Edinburgh (her husband) is married into the Family, therefor she is more powerful than he, and he is what you could call King Consort (married into the family). When she dies or abdicates, Prince Charles will be Kign, and Camilla Dutchess of Cornwall, or Queen Consort.

  15. OH dear you are sad. The national anthem mentions the queen because we only have a queen right now. When we have a king it will be god save the king..gezzz. Anyway the queens have always kicked *** over the kings:)

  16. The current British monarch is a female, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who is possibly the last female monarch Great Britain will see for the next few decades. Her son, Prince Charles of Wales is designed to be the next "King George VIII of the United Kingdom", followed by his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry of Wales. There is no heiress presumptive at the moment unless Prince William married and his legitimate royal offspring were all daughters.

  17. The last King in England died in February 1952. As he only had daughters, his eldest daughter became Queen, she's still alive. When she dies (or abdicates- extremely unlikely), Prince Charles (providing he's still alive) will become King. The National Anthem changes depending on who's on the throne.

  18. It would be a bit silly to sing god save the king, when we have a queen on the throne at the moment!!

  19. You do realise we don't actually HAVE a King at the moment, right? Just because he is married to the Queen doesnt give him King status.

When we DO have a king, the national anthem becomes "God save the King".

    Does that help?

  20. Probably because at the moment we do not have a king just a Queen and when the next King comes to the throne the words of the anthem will be changed from Queen to King. Simple as that.
