King re-signs with Kings; Playoffs’ hero Dwight King extends his contract with Los Angeles Kings
23-year-old, Canadian professional, Dwight King, who was brought in by Los Angeles from Manchester Monarchs, mid way through the last season, has signed a deal with the team with which he won his first Stanley Cup last season. According to the deal, King
would be a restricted free agent.
King had earned fame after scoring five goals in the playoffs that played an important role in Los Angeles Kings winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise’s history. After being founded on 9th February in the year 1966, it was just
their second appearance in the Stanley Cup finals after they reached the finals for the first time in after the 1992-1993 season.
Importantly for Los Angeles Kings, now they have got most of the players that were last year in the roster when Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup so they definitely will be happy to carry on and come up with the same players and the winning combination.
A resident of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Dwight King started his career with Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2004-2005 season at the age of 15. He was a part of 2007 NHL Entry draft whereas he was drafted 109th overall in the 4th round by
Los Angeles Kings. But they did not sign him and went back to play for Lethbridge Hurricanes for two more years, until 2009.
He made his professional Hockey debut for Ontario Reign, Los Angeles Kings’ affiliates in Eastern Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
But after playing just 20 games for them, he was sent to Manchester Monarchs, affiliates of Los Angeles Kings’ in American Hockey League (AHL). He spent two seasons there after finally earning a call from Los Angeles Kings to play in NHL after their Ukrainian
left winger, Alexei Ponikarovsky, got injured. He was given chance to play just six games after being sent to Manchester Monarchs again, which was his last tenure with them, till now.
After being called once again by Los Angeles Kings mid way through the 2011-2012 season, Dwight King impressed a lot by scoring 14 points, five goals and nine assists and made his spot permanent in the roster by scoring five goals in the Stanley Cup playoffs
and playing a key role in the Stanley Cup win.
