Kings XI Punjab sign David Miller as Dimitri Mascarenhas’ replacement
Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab have signed young South Africa all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Miller-c53105 for $100,000 as a replacement for the injured Dimitri Mascarenhas.
The replacement was confirmed by the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 Chief Operating Officer Arvinder Singh on Thursday. Singh while talking to a leading sports website said that the coach and captain of team wanted to replace Mascarenhas with a batting
all-rounder and hoped Miller would prove himself a fitting substitution.
“The coach and captain were of the view that we wanted a batting all-rounder,[Miller is] http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 guy who has proved his value in South Africa cricket and debuted for South Africa recently,” said the franchise COO. “He is very excited about
being here and we are expecting him to play a crucial role for us.”
33-year-old England all-rounder Mascarenhas is recovering from a surgery on his Achilles heel injury.
Miller was part of the Proteas squad that played the four-match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s preliminary ICC World Cup 2011 squad.
As per the IPL rules, in case of any replacement the new players should be chosen from the pool of players who went unsold in the first auction and the new player cannot be paid more than the one he is replacing. However, the franchise can
pay him less, depending upon his base price in the auction.
The young South Africa all-rounder, who made his ODI debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in May 2010, would give the franchise an off-spinning option besides being a middle-order batsman. He is expected to join the team on Friday, 8 April, 2011.
Earlier the franchise had signed another South African cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-McLaren-c87323 in place of the injured Englishman Stuart Broad.
The Adam Gilchrist-led Punjab side will play its opening IPL game against Sahara Pune Warriors on Sunday, 10 April, 2011 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
