Kings XI Punjab v Deccan Chargers – Indian Premier League 5 – Match Recap – Kings XI still in the race after last-ball win over Chargers
Conceding their fifth last-over defeat of the season, the Deccan Chargers let a close game slip from their grasp as the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 went on to secure a narrow 4-wicket victory with zero balls remaining at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali,
Chandigarh on May 13. The victory enables the Kings XI to remain in the race for a spot in the tournament playoffs.
The visiting team won the toss and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 (18), and their opening stand of 47 got the team off to a steady start.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 was dismissed in the 6th over by Azhar Mahmood, caught out by Gurkeerat Singh as he attempted to lift one over mid-wicket, and was followed to the crease by Sangakkara. The skipper continued his disappointing season, and managed to contribute
just one run before he was taken by Mahmood off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parvinder-Awana-c80792 in the 7th over.
Cameron White, one of the mainstays of the Chargers’ batting order, contributed a vital unbeaten 67 off 41, in addition to establishing a 3rd wicket 96-run stand with Dhawan, and after the latter’s dismissal in the 17th over off Praveen
Kumar, went on to team up with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 (24) for a 44-run partnership.
Christian’s departure in the last over off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Mahmood-c1116 marked the end of the Chargers’ innings, and the visitors posted a total of 190 (their second highest total in the season so far) at the expense of 4 wickets.
Mahmood claimed two scalps while Kumar and Awana managed to take one wicket each, but the Kings XI bowlers were fairly ineffective when it came to restricting the run flow. David Hussey gave away 14 in just one over, while Awana bled 41 in 4. Kumar’s 31
in 4 was the most economical performance in the host team’s camp.
Bolstered by the challenging target set-up by White and Dhawan, the Chargers’ appeared to be in control in the early stages of the Kings XI’s innings, courtesy two early wicket by Christian.  Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nitin-Saini-c79746 (3) was sent back to the pavilion
in the 3rd over, followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 (11) in the 5th, leaving the hosts at 26 for 2.
Kings XI’s talented young opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manpreet-Gony-c1891 in the 8th over, by which point the team was at 56 for 3. However, Mahmood (31) and Hussey (65) collaborated to contribute 44 runs to the
total, which reached 100 by the 13th over.
However, the Kings XI’s chances took a nosedive with the dismissal of Mahmood at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 went on to claim
2 wickets – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Piyush-c82317 Chawla (8) were both dismissed within the space of 3 deliveries, and the Kings XI saw themselves at 149 for 6 by the end of the 17th over – 42 runs short of the target, with just 3 overs remaining.
However, a late burst by 21-year-old Gurkeerat Singh, who contributed a quick-fire 29 off 12, in addition to joining Hussey for a 45-run stand, enabled the Kings XI to snatch a narrow victory from the Chargers.
With 16 runs required off the last over, Gurkeerat Singh smashed 1 six and 2 fours to propel his side to 194 by the end of 20 overs, and the last-ball victory spelled yet another defeat for the Chargers, who hashed up yet another chance despite managing
to retain an upper-hand throughout most of the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 65, and while the Chargers’ absence in the approaching playoffs stage of the tournament is confirmed, the Kings XI are still in contention in what is shaping up to be a tight race, and will
be looking to keep their momentum going as they prepare to take on table-toppers Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 on May 15.
