Thursday, April 12: In the 14th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Pune Warriors managed to post a meagre total of 115 runs in 19 overs against Kings XI Punjab, at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
The match holds great importance for Punjab as they are winless after playing two games this season and would be looking to change their fortunes against the number-two team on the points table as Pune have four points from winning the two games that they played before today’s encounter.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 was aware of the tight situation of his side and talking before the match had said, “Two games and 2 loses, not an ideal start, but we have to make a quick turnaround. Couple of days of training has been good and we are upbeat this time. Batters have to put up a good score at the start.”
After winning the toss, Punjab chose to field first as they wanted to restrict Pune on a small total in order for them to chase down the target without much hassle.
Punjab, made early inroads as they grabbed their first wicket with only 13 runs on the board, when Pune opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679, lost his wicket on the second delivery of the third over after scoring just seven runs.
Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912 after scoring an innings of 16 runs. At the time of his demise the side had amassed 28 runs.
And a run later, Pune saw their third batsman walk back to the pavilion as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 perished after scoring two runs.
With their top three batsmen sitting in the dressing room, the side was certainly feeling the heat as they knew they would have to bat with some maturity from here on in order to prevail in the contest.
Nonetheless, Punjab kept their pressure on the batting side as Pune lost a few more wickets without much on the board.
Later in the middle, it was the innings of 31 runs by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mithun-Manhas-c76414, that did some damage and helped Pune post a total beyond 100 runs.
Punjab now have the match in their grasp and Pune will have to pull off an out of the world bowling performance to save this game.
