Kings XI Punjab vs. Pune Warriors: Ryan McLaren saves the day for Punjab – IPL news
Kings XI Punjab have managed to score 112 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their opening match of the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League against Pune Warriors.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-McLaren-c87323 was the standout performer for Punjab, otherwise the situation could have been much worse for them.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 won the toss for Kings XI and decided to bat first on a typical limited overs track. It did not turn out to be a good decision as four of their top order batsmen were back to the pavilion with only 9 runs on the board, including their two
premier batsmen Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh.
The situation never improved for Punjab as the wickets kept on tumbling throughout the innings. However, McLaren played a brilliant knock under pressure and struck 51 runs off just 43 balls in which he struck 6 boundaries and a massive six.
Because of McLaren’s efforts, Punjab were able to post a fighting total of 112 runs on the board which does not look like enough on such a flat track. However, it will allow Punjab to at least challenge Pune’s batting line-up.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991 picked up a couple of wickets whereas Wayne Parnell and Jesse Ryder took a wicket each.
The Warriors are playing in the IPL for the first time and their first showing in the cash rich league has been impressive so far. They were well led by Yuvraj Singh in the first innings and look like a formidable unit with the likes of Graeme Smith, Jesse
Ryder and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 in their ranks.
Punjab on the other hand have a completely new line-up as compared to the previous seasons but they could not combine as a unit with the bat to challenge Pune’s bowling. Even on paper, their batting looks weak as Gilchrist and Marsh would have to contribute
big if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 are to do well in the tournament.
