Kings XI vow to take “proper action” against players guilty of spot-fixing – Cricket News Update
Following a sting operation carried out by an Indian television channel, which revealed that players in the ongoing Indian Premier League were willing to indulge in spot-fixing and accepting bribes, the Kings XI Punjab team management has issued a strict
warning, saying “proper action” will be taken against any player found guilty of involvement in corrupt practices.
Footage of a sting operation carried out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 TV revealed various IPL players admitting on hidden camera that they made much more than the salary agreed upon during the auctions through underhand dealings. One player was exposed negotiating a price for
bowling a no-ball, while three other players, speaking to a news reporter disguised as a sports agent, agreed to accept bribes from other franchises in the tournament, an act which is in direct breach of their IPL contracts.
Five uncapped domestic players – Mohnish Mishra (Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Bali-c41754 – were all exposed by the footage, and the BCCI, along with the IPL Governing
Council, took immediate action. A meeting of officials from both parties was called, and after analysis of the footage, suspension orders were issued for the players in question.
“Kings XI Punjab believes in fair play and commitment towards the game. We have complete faith in the IPL governing body and BCCI and we abide by their decision,” read a statement released by the Kings XI team management.
In addition to the suspension orders, the BCCI will also be launching an inquiry into the allegations, with the committee being headed by ex-chief of the ICC’s anti-corruption and security unit, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Sawani.
“Detailed interrogation will take place by the concerned authorities and if any player is found guilty, proper action as warranted will be taken against the individual,” the statement went on to add.
Two players have been named from the Kings XI squad, but while both are currently signed on with the franchise, they have not played a single match this season. Yadav has yet to issue a statement regarding the accusations, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srivastava-c90841 (who is being accused
