Kingsmill Championship 2012 to feature a strong field
The Kingsmill Championship 2012, which is scheduled to be played from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, is going to feature a strong field comprising most of the prominent LPGA
(Ladies professional Golf Association) stars.
According to the officials of the tournament, American Cristie Kerr, who is the defending champion, has been confirmed to grace the field. On the other hand, past winner Se Ri Pak of South Korea will also be
putting her skills to test at Williamsburg.
Officials said that although the field will be featuring several other battle-hardened contenders, the commitment of Kerr and Pak has boosted interest of golf crazy local fans.
In addition to past winners, the other players who have confirmed their commitment to participate in the tournament include American Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, Brook Pancake and Brittany Lang.
The strong roster is expected to stage an interesting battle among professional players — something the local fans have long been waiting to see.
The Kingsmill Championship was first played in 2003 and continued to be held for seven years straight. Since the LPGA tournament was not held in the year 2010 and 2011, it is being expected that the upcoming
edition is going to attract a huge number of spectators.
Analysts said that Kerr and Pak will certainly grab the most attention at Williamsburg, as they know the course well — something likely to help them gain advantage over their rivals.
Kingsmill Resort Vice President of Sports Operations Wayne Nooe expressed his hope about the successful completion of the tournament, saying he and his officials are very happy to see the event being staged
once again. He said that the most important thing for the Kingsmill Championship is the presence of top-ranked LPGA contenders, who will help lure a big crowd, and the image of the event will definitely get a massive boost.
“We are excited to announce the commitment of these outstanding athletes to play in the Kingsmill Championship. We are expecting the vast majority of the best players in the world to be in Williamsburg in September,
and today’s announcement is a great start,” Nooe said.
Officials said that the field is yet to be finalised, however, most of the players have shown their interest in joining the tournament.
