Kingsmill Championship: Beatriz Recari ties for third with three contenders in opening round
Spanish Beatriz Recari made a solid start at the Kingsmill Championship. She registered a 65 in the opening round to tie for the third spot, along with Paula Creamer of the United States, Swedish Maria Hjorth and fellow Spanish Azahara Munoz.
Recari kicked off the round on Thursday with a solid strategy as she wanted to pile up a big lead at the start.
Although the field was fearsome, the Spanish star managed to make her strategy work as she was able to post a good score on the first day.
She did not let her nerve overcome her, which helped her stay focused on each hole she played. Paula Creamer, Azahara Munoz and Maria Hjorth of Sweden also carded a 65 each to share the position with Recari.
She started her round early in the morning and played perfect strokes despite feeling a little pressured due to a rich field packed with battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
She parred the first two holes and impressed her fans after shooting two consecutive birdies on the 3rd and 4th hole.
The match turned into a tough battle after the contenders put their maximum effort to score well, but the officials were forced to suspend the first round after light started to fade.
Commentators said that most of the players completed their round, but there are still many who have yet to tee off. Although hit by darkness, the excitement kept building up as players battled hard in a bid to gain a lead over each other.
Recari’s performance was nothing short of amazing as she did not make any bogey in the round. She carded three birdies on the back nine.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the Spanish golfer said that she has been seeking to make a solid start like she did on Thursday at Williamsburg.
“Last week was a week off and the week before was Canada where my putting was horrible, it wasn't good at all, so we did a lot of work on the green, lots of, you know, my routine lining it up and it definitely helped and I got a little better feeling on the greens and just hit the ball really well,” Recari said.
