Kingsmill Championship: Dewi Claire Schreefel slumps to the 13th position after final round
Dewi Claire Schreefel of the Netherlands could not maintain her momentum in the final round of Kingsmill Championship. She tumbled to the 13th position after she posted a 73 on Sunday at Williamsburg, Virginia, United States.
Schreefel was brimming with confidence when she set foot on the course on Thursday morning, as she stunned the American spectators after shooting an almost flawless 66 in the first round.
The Dutch star remained resilient despite facing experienced LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars bent on proving their mettle in the prestigious tournament.
However, Schreefel seemed to have shrugged off the pressure as she kept forging ahead by carding birdies. The second round saw her stick to her plans as she amazed the spectators once again by posting a 66.
Although confident thanks to her fiery start, the Dutch golfer found herself faltering a little in the final round as she missed several good chances to make a birdie-putt and ended up carding a 73.
She parred the first three holes and let down her fans after she carded a bogey on the fourth hole. She tried to make a desperate comeback in the round as she rattled off a beautiful birdie on the par-5 seventh hole.
On the back nine, Schreefel’s game looked even faultier as all she could was to make a single birdie. Although she found plenty of good chances to score well, her putting was bad enough to earn her a bogey on the 18th and a double bogey on the difficult par-3 13th hole.
Sharing her thoughts about her overall performance at the end of the third round, Schreefel said that she was confident to keep the momentum going after she got off to a solid start in the opening round.
She said that the final two rounds did not go as well as she had thought, which caused her to dip to the thirteenth position on the leaderboard.
“Got off to a pretty fast start birdieing the first and eagle on the third, so felt like I was doing good. Just after that it slowed down a little bit, got away from the pin a little bit, so didn't have as many close chances,” the Dutch star said.
