Kingsmill Championship: Jiyai Shin battles hard in the fourth round
South Korean Jiyai Shin battled hard through the four rounds of Kingsmill Championship, as she shot an overall 268 to share the first position with American Paula Creamer.
Both the fourth-round leaders moved into sudden death playoff where they will play an extra hole to prove their worth.
Shin looked determined when she kicked off her fourth round at Williamsburg, Virginia, on Sunday, as she did not give much room to her nearest rival.
Shin continued her recent improvement to finish the last round strongly, tying for the first with Creamer, but she moved into sudden death playoff to face another nerve-racking battle.
Commentators said that the match at Williamsburg was tougher than Shin had anticipated but there are brighter days coming for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) star thanks to her performance in the recent past.
However, commentator also pointed out that Shin still has a long way to go before she can stand next to players like Stacy Lewis of the United States and current world number one Yani Tseng.
Shin was a little uneven in the last two rounds compared with a flying start that saw her shoot a 62 in the opening round. However, overall, her game was full of excellence, as she managed to outrivaled most of the top-ranked LPGA contenders.
The South Korean golfer kicked off the fourth round in amazing style as she shot two straight birdies on the second and third hole. She then parred the rest of holes on the front nine.
On the back nine, Shin looked a bit under pressure as her shots missed the cup several times.
She carded two back-to-back bogeys, but quickly regained her momentum after she sank two consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th hole.
She shot a 69 in the third round too, which helped her cement her position on the leaderboard.
“It was a long tough day, but good thing is I'm still here in the interview room is a good point. Yes, it's true, first four hole I made a two bogey".
"Actually until No. 7 before when I made the first birdie. My shot and my putting wasn't work today,” Shin said while speaking to the media at the end of the third round.
“When I thinking always going to be a long day. But No. 8, about 25‑foot putt I made, so after that I get good tempo with my putting and I get ‑‑ finally I get the good speed on the green”.
