Kingsmill Championship: Jiyai Shin maintains lead in second round
South Korean Jiyai Shin maintained her momentum in the second round of Kingsmill Championship as she shot a 68 to cling to her early lead.
Shin got off to a very sensational start at the Kingsmill Championship, being held at Kingsmill Resort, The River Course, Williamsburg, Virginia, despite the presence of some of the most competent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
The field of Kingsmill Championship is featuring key stars, such as defending champion Cristie Kerr of the United States, current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie, Azahara Munoz, Maria Hjorth, Chella Choi, Na Yeon Choi, Lexi Thompson, Pernilla Gerina, Angela Stanford, Mika Miyazato, Ai Miyazato, Sandra Gal, Catriona Matthew, Laura Diaz and Brittany Lincicome.
Shin kicked off her second round with confidence as she managed to pile up a huge lead in the opening round.
She carded a massive 62 on Thursday, which helped the South Korean star strengthen her position on the leaderboard.
She parred the first two holes in the second round and carded her first birdie on the par-5 third hole. Shin then parred three holes in a row and launched another birdie on the par-5 seventh hole.
The weather conditions stayed fine throughout the day, helping players make balanced strokes on the fairways and greens.
On the back nine, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titan scored two birdies and one bogey. She handled the ball tactfully on the 10th and sank a birdie-putt.
Commentators said that despite a strong field, most of the lesser-known players performed well and managed to post good scores in the first two rounds.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Shin said that she is thrilled after maintaining her lead on the second day and looks forward to staying firm in the next two rounds.
"I made the one bogey today but it’s OK. I made another four birdies. It was still a good feeling with my shot and putting" she shared.
"And I play in the afternoon so it make the greens a little bit slower, so I missed a few chance with my putting. Well, I still feel good so I just look forward to the weekend,” added the second-round leader.
