Kingsmill Championship: Lexi Thompson improves position in second round
American Lexi Thompson produced a display of impressive talent in the second round of Kingsmill Championship, as she fired a 66 to tie for the fifth position, along with Spanish Azahara Munoz.
Lexi showed her usual putting skills at Williamsburg, Virginia on Friday, as the much-hyped tournament saw top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars battle their way through the tough lineup.
With the mounting pressure from her rivals, Lexi opened the second round quite carefully as her strokes were balanced on most of the holes except for one bogey.
Starting the round from the 10th hole, the young prodigy looked in a stunning form as she avoided making lousy putts.
She drained a birdie on the 10th and then parred the next four holes in a row. She amazed the spectators after she sank two straight birdies on the 15th and 16th.
On the front nine, the American star parred the first two holes, but sent the crowd clapping after she carded an eagle on the par-5 third hole.
Commentators said that Lexi is desperately seeking to end her victory drought in the current season, the Tour has been a little rough for her as she missed several good chances to record a triumph.
South Korean Jiyai Chin maintained her grip on the leaderboard as she fired an overall 130 to cling to the first position at the end of the second round.
Jiyai spoke to the media and expressed her confidence in her game. She said that she is ready to maintain her lead in the next two rounds.
American Danielle Kang improved her position in the second round, as she posted a 64 to take the second position on the leaderboard.
Kang said that she is pretty happy after beating several battle-hardened players and she looks forward to maintaining her form in the final two rounds as well.
The American star went on to say that her strokes have become quite better now and she does not face trouble chipping the ball as she wants to.
“I love match play but it's hard to get yourself into that mode because every shot does count in stroke play, so it's a different mindset.  Sometimes when I get into it I'm really comfortable, so I keep telling myself hey, just have fun,” Kang said.
