Kingsmill Championship: Paula Creamer stands firm at the end of second round
American Paula Creamer looked pretty strong in the second round of Kingsmill Championship, as she posted a 67 to tie for the third position on the leaderboard.
Creamer cheered up the fans and spectators at the Kingsmill Resort, Williamsburg, Virginia, as she struck perfect strokes on almost all the holes she played during the first two rounds.
Now that the American star has managed to grab a stronger position on the leaderboard, local spectators and fans have pinned their hopes on her.
She seems to be the only player from the United States, who is battling hard for the coveted title.
Winning the title for American contenders will be sensational not only because of the prestige of the Kingsmill Championship title, but also because the match is being played on the American soil.
After having made a solid start in the opening round, Creamer moved into the next round on Friday with her head high and more vigour.
She, however, made mistakes on some of the holes in the second round, but maintained her grip on the game most of the day.
Starting the round on the 10th hole, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titan parred the first two holes. She faltered on the 12th hole as she could not adjust to the course conditions and ended up posting a bogey.
Regaining her confidence, Creamer rattled off two back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th hole. On the front nine, she picked up pace and piled up more points.
The American golfer shot three birdies on the front nine, stepping up pressure on nearest rivals and cementing position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media at the end of the first round, Creamer said that her biggest goal for the season is to end her winning drought.
She said that keeping that goal in her mind, she is making a maximum effort to clinch a victory this week, as it will also boost her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
“I don't want to put too much pressure on myself, but of course I come here to win. I play every tournament, even when I don't feel I'm at my best, I still feel like I can get a Top 10 or whatnot. Hopefully I can continue the way that I'm playing and we'll see what happens,” the golfing sensation said.
