Kinsey Vear excels in Women’s 200yard freestyle – High School State Championships, Michigan
Kinsey Vear of Marquette High School-MI excelled in the Women’s 200yard freestyle final at the Michigan Upper Peninsula High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Marie, Michigan on Tuesday, February 21.
The 12-year-old Vear stunned the audience by overpowering her competitors in a comfortable manner. She posted a time of 2 minutes and 02.36 seconds for the title of 200yard event. She remained nearly seven seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Carrie
Berkompas of Rudyard Bulldogs-US, who settled on the finishing wall for second position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 09.73 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Hannah Gundlach of Houghton High School, who was just 0.80 seconds behind and transpired on the concluding end with a third finest effort of 2 minutes and 10.53 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s corner, where Daniel Shonnard of Houghton High School overwhelmed his challengers by posting an effort of 1 minute and 55.51 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by his team-member, Stuart Rosemurgy, who remained 6.09 seconds behind and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.60 seconds for silver medal.
Nick Chevillot of Sault Area High School-MI proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the event as he ended his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 06.18 seconds.
The third event of the session was Women’s 200yard Individual Medley (IM), where Olivia Rouleau of Jeffers Co-op demonstrated her aggressive efforts and clinched gold medal of the event in a time of 2 minutes and 20.23 seconds.
Janelle Carroll of Marquette High School-MI remained second best finisher of the event as she completed her race with an effort of 2 minutes and 36.81 seconds. She was followed by Katie Naber of Houghton High School, who stayed almost five seconds behind
and appeared on the medal rostrum for third position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 41.64 seconds.
The arena appreciated commendable struggles of all teenage swimmers in their respective events whereas the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their laudable efforts after the completion of session.
