Kinsey Vear gathers Women’s 100yard butterfly – High School State Championships, Michigan
Kinsey Vear of Marquette High School-MI continued her winning streak as she gathered gold medal of the Women’s 100yard butterfly at the Michigan Upper Peninsula High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Marie, Michigan on Tuesday, February 21.
The 12-year-old Vear, who captured gold medal of the 200yard freestyle earlier, went full throttle in the butterfly discipline and posted a time of 1 minute and 02.24 seconds. She was followed by Sophie Witting of Houghton High School, who remained nearly
six seconds slower from her former finisher and completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 08.89 seconds for silver medal.
Grimn Co-Op’s Karalyn Anderton was almost four seconds slower from overwhelming the efforts of her preceding swimmer and reached the victory stand for bronze medal with an effort of 1 minute and 12.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Colin MacQuarrie of Sault Area High School-MI conquered the title of Men’s equivalent event as he touched the finishing end with the timing of 52.80 seconds. The gold medallist was followed by Alex Monette of Houghton High School, who ensured
his second best finish in the event by completing his race in a time of 58.53 seconds.
The 12-year-old Monette was chased by his team-member, Drew Meyer, who pocketed bronze medal of the race by finishing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 00.36 seconds.
Moments later, the arena witnessed an eye-catching performance of Rudyard Bulldogs-US’s Carrie Berkompas in Women’s 100yard freestyle as she posted a top fastest time of 58.60 seconds for gold medal. The 17-year-old Berkompas remained 0.54 seconds ahead
of Marquette High School’s Katy Beckstrom, who acquired silver medal of the event in a time of 59.14 seconds.
The 11-year-old Beckstrom was chased by Jill Toorongian of Houghton High School, who stayed almost one second slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her sprint with the timing of 1 minute and 00.08 seconds.
The championship concluded after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s corner whereas the winners received a huge round of applause from the audience for their undisputed efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
