i've got my 9 yr. old niece plus my 2 1/2 yr old nephew the parents have signed over their rights (which is a whole nother story in it's self) needless to say the rest of my family has given me nothing but grief and also one of the other members is the cause to it all- and i'm recieving the blame for the whole situation instead of her) any way I've had them for almost 2 yrs now and i just okayed the draft for petition to officially adopt them; by the way CPS is involved. any way I 'm just wondering what will happen next and about how much longer it would prob. be? (there is no way the parent's would fight for them because they are both in prison for what will prob. (most unfortunately) be the rest of their lives(they are both under 30 yrs old now)

  1. we are in the process of foster/adopting our 5 month old niece, it can cause a very sticky situation if the birth mo parents aren't consenting to the adoption, it has been a difficult 3 months for us and come to find out it could be up to another year and then we could lose her....overall it is similar to regular adoption, you don't need as much training etc....Good luck with your adoption if you decide that route, sorry I don't really know what you are asking exactly

  2. I suppose it's really dependent upon the state and how many custody/adoption proceedings are in session at the time your paperwork goes through.  You could always call those in charge of inspections to get an estimate on time, of course explaining that you are already ready for the inspections you just want a general timeline.

Sometimes families can be your worst enemy.  Amazing isn't it?

  3. I am also in the process of trying to get my niece and nephew out of foster care and have kinship placement. If their mother doesn't complete the services to get them back I am prepared to adopt. It has been very stressful. I know they have to be careful and look out for the best interest of any child they have removed, but it seems they do it at the demise of everyone else. Although my homestudy was favorable there have been "shady" delays. So instead of spending $3000 on the children it looks like I will have to hire an attorney to file an intervention. How is that in the best interest of the children? Good luck, start practincing deep breathing and relaxation techniques it is a very frustrating ordeal..

  4. Yes, Kinship adoption is where a family member adopts a child.  Usually this refers to when Protective Services has taken custody of a child or removed a child from parents due to abuse or neglect or positive drug screen at birth.  Then they offer for the child to be adopted by a family member rather than permanently remove the child from the entire family.  However, the family member needs to be approved just like any other adoptive parent.  Depending in the stat,e there is usually a Kinship Study done, which is virtually the same as an Adoption Homestudy.  There are older posts I have written which describe all the components looked for to approved a family's homestudy below, if you look a few posts down.

    I hope this helps!

  5. I have some distant relatives that adopted their grandson.  As said its where a member of the family adopts the baby or child.    I also know a lady at my church who adopted her brothers children.
