Kiradech Aphibarnrat set to win the Maybank Malaysian Open – Golf News
Kiradech Aphibarnrat is set to outshine his opponents in the Maybank Malaysian Open, scheduled to start at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, on Thursday, April 12, 2012.
The two-time world junior champion said that he always likes to fly to Malaysia to participate in the events because of the hospitality it provides to the visitors.
He tied for the third position in the 2010 edition of the tournament, which is, so far, the best finish he had in the event.
This year, he aims to improve his track record while displaying a consistent performance throughout the tournament.
For this purpose, he needs to have complete control over his game. Moreover, accuracy will play a key role in his success at the tournament.
Yet, the presence of some of the big names such as Martin Kaymer, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel will prove to be a great challenge to him.
According to the tournament officials, a total of five major winners confirmed to participate in the event. Aphibarnrat also admitted that he will have to play really good in order to outshine the elite field in Kuala Lumpur.
“The field is strong and there’s pressure to be playing with these top players. It will be difficult to defeat them but it will be challenging. I feel a bit nervous but I’ll try to do my best,” he said.
He also commented on his fitness level, stating that he had been working on it for the last two years.
“Previously, I never did any running or jogging at all! I’m starting to work out more this year and I feel my body is getting stronger,” he said.
“It makes a lot of difference especially with this type of weather in Asia. I make sure I work out about one and a half hours and four days a week”.
Aphibarnrat is just 22 years old and he has already made his name in the world of Asian golf. He defeated Mohammad Siddikur in the SAIL Open last year to earn his first Asian Tour victory.
He also participated in the 2011 World Cup, representing Thailand’s golf team in the event.
