http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kiran-Shankar-More-c71494 slams role of Nation Cricket Academy in India cricket – Cricket News Update
As India’s dismal show in Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) has decided to go for an in-depth review.
Yet, Kiran More, the former chairman of national selectors and wicket-keeper, has suggested BCCI to start its work from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and said that the Academy’s role in Indian national cricket is not more than a joke.
"The biggest review the Indian board needs to do is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). It has become a joke. The last time I was there, all the bowlers and batsmen were being just cloned mechanically," said More.
Team India failed to produce good results in the Test competition against the Poms, suffering a humiliating 0-4 defeat and subsequently losing the No. 1 position in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings.
As soon as some of the key Indian players got injured during the clash, it became a nightmare for the Indian selectors since the Men in Blue were lacking bench strength.
More criticised NCA’s inability to feed young talent to the national crew, saying that he has not yet seen any player at the level of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 coming from the academy.
The NCA is currently being headed by the former Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, who recently took the charge over. More urged cricket administration to give full authority to Kumble, so that he can run the affair properly.
"Kumble should be given a free rein. He will make sure the right structure is put in place. You can`t just have coaches who are equipped with Level 1, 2 certificates. To an extent these guys can help, but you need national cricketers playing a bigger role,"
added the former wicket-keeper batsman who served his country in 49 Tests and 94 ODIs.
Although, there are many cricket private academies working in India at the moment, More believes that the National Academy should take more responsibility and nurture new talent as it is extremely important for India to stay among the top sides.
