Kiriakov blames Sergei Chepchugov for their UEFA Champions League defeat against Real Madrid and questioned Leonid Slutsky’s decision to start without Tomas Necid.
Real Madrid have advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after making short work of CSKA Moscow with a 4-1 return leg win at Santiago Bernabeu. Gonzalo Higuain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 led the Spanish outfit
to a magnificent home win.
Though the Russian outfit managed to stop Real’s European winning run by claiming a 1-1 stalemate at Luzhniki stadium, they crashed out of the European tournament after suffering a 5-2 aggregate defeat. Zoran Tosic scored the only
goal for the Russian outfit.
The former Dynamo Moscow striker, Sergei Kiriakov, was full of praise for the Moscow-based club, admitting that they managed to trouble the Spanish giants despite their European exit.
The Legends Cup winner went on to blame the Koni’s reserve goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergei-Chepchugov-c32954, admitting that the 26-year-old had a poor European game. Kiriakov revealed that Leonid Slutsky, the Army-men head coach, should have played
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Akinfeev-c16676 instead.
Akinfeev has not played in a competitive game since December after sustaining a shoulder injury. News in Russia had suggested that Slutsky wants to save their first choice goalkeeper for the upcoming Russian Premier League game
against Spartak Moscow.
Speaking on Slutsky’s decision to bench their in-form striker, Tomas Necid, during the return leg in Spain, Kiriakov admitted that the Russian Cup winner made the wrong decision in benching the striker.
“CSKA played with dignity but missed certain chances. The Russian goalkeeper made some mistakes because he is inexperienced. Things might have been different if he had not conceded the first goal. The Army-men, meanwhile, made
a blunder by naming Necid on the bench.”  The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 player was quoted as saying.
The Armeytsy failed to advance from the round-of-16 after suffering a 3-1 UEFA Europa League aggregate defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 last year. Kiriakov lamented the situation and admitted that Armeytsy have now established themselves
as a decent European team and gave the example of their group stage 2-1 win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan at San Siro.
