Kirilenko/Petrova crush Shvedova/Voskoboeva to reach semis – Mutua Madrid Open 2012

Fourth seeded Russians, Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova, devastated the Kazakhstani junction, Yaroslava Shvedova and Galina Voskoboeva, with a breadstick at the Mutua Madrid Open 2012 on Thursday. They jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 success against the seventh
seeds to breeze into the final four at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event taking place in Madrid, Spain.
The seeded Russians blasted into Park Manzanares and slew Shvedova-Voskoboeva tandem in straight sets. After earning this limelight in one hour and 16 minutes, Kirilenko and Petrova comfortably secured a place in the semi-finals.
The higher ranked pair assertively stepped on the Spanish blue clay courts and went on a five-game killing spree before Shvedova and Voskoboeva could hold on. The Russian plucked their serve once more and pulled out the opener with a breadstick. They warded
off all four breakpoints they faced and cashed in both break chances to inch towards the fame.
Kirilenko and Petrova kept momentum floating into the proceeding set and earned the desiderated break in the opening game to jump to a 2-0 lead. They capitalised on another break chance in the fifth game and extended their lead to 5-1. The Russians swiped
in their serve once more in the eighth game and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
Summing up the higher seeds’ performance, Kirilenko and Shvedova nudged up a lower first serve share of 57 per cent in contrast with the Kazakhs’ 68 per cent. However, they impressively clicked 19 out of 27 points on it to rule throughout the match.
The Russians will next confront fifth seeded Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, who tumbled over the Slovakian wildcard entrants, Dominika Cibulkova and Janette Husarova, in straight sets to set-up this battle. The Italians were broken down once but
cashed in three out of nine break chances to manipulate a 6-4, 7-5 score line in 81 minutes.
Another Russian junction, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, also earn the glory later that day. They made an epic comeback to trounce the high flying Argentinean tandem, Gisela Dulko and Paola Suarez, in a three-set mouth-watering match to progress.
